About Acomb Green
Acomb Green is a three-acre local green space a short distance from Acomb Front Street, on the west side of York. Surrounded by roads on all sides, it has the feel of a traditional village green and serves as a focal point for the Acomb community. The green is managed by City of York Council with help from the Friends of Acomb Green, and it combines open grass for sitting and informal games with a War Memorial and seating area. Its standout feature for families is the play area, which uses inventive timber structures to create varied and adventurous facilities for local children, and the green has featured in the York Design Awards for this work. As part of the council's wider parks investment programme, Acomb Green has been receiving targeted repairs, new equipment and accessibility improvements. Access to the site is open, with a path running across the middle and steps at one side. There are no council car parks close by, so visitors are advised to use on-street parking in the surrounding streets, and frequent buses run from the city centre to the Acomb Green stop. The green is free to visit at any time.
