About Princess Anne Park

Princess Anne Park is a large, largely natural park in Washington, Sunderland, stretching from just south of the Galleries shopping centre toward Fatfield along the banks of the Oxclose Burn stream. Managed by Sunderland City Council, much of it has been left to nature, with open meadows for summer picnics and three looped walking paths of varying lengths that wind off into woodland, making it a favourite with walkers and dog walkers. The park has a popular and well-used skate park with parking right next to it; since the skate park opened in 2020 the area has been extended and now includes a play area for small children and several new seating areas. The park also offers bicycle parking and sits close to Washington Leisure Centre at its northern end. There are large grassy areas with convenient dog waste bins, and the park is wheelchair accessible via its surfaced paths. Open 24 hours a day and free to enter, Princess Anne Park hosts community sports festivals and activities during school holidays, combining a spacious, wooded setting for walking and play with easy access to the facilities of central Washington. Families looking for a quieter green space with room to roam and a dedicated area for younger children will find it here.
