About Rivelin Valley Park

Rivelin Valley Park sits along the wooded Rivelin Valley on the western edge of Sheffield and is managed by Sheffield City Council, with maintenance help from the Rivelin Valley Conservation Group. The valley has a long industrial history of water-powered mills, and its string of dams and weirs still line the river. For families, the park combines a traditional children's playground with a popular seasonal water play area, found off Rivelin Valley Road near the Rivelin Park Café. The water play — revamped and renamed in 2013 — has three large splash pads with anti-slip surfacing and a range of equipment including jets, sprinklers, bucket drops and water tables. It opens from the late-May bank holiday to the first weekend of September, running daily during school holidays and at weekends otherwise, 10am to 4:30pm. The playground was upgraded in 2012 and the toilets in 2013, and there is ramped access with handrails. The café serves meals and refreshments, and picnic areas sit alongside. Beyond the play facilities, the Rivelin Valley Nature Trail follows the river through woodland, making this a scenic spot for a family walk combined with play. The park is free to visit all year.
