About Hillsborough Park

Hillsborough Park is a 20-hectare (49-acre) designated City Park in Hillsborough, around three miles north-west of Sheffield city centre and managed by Sheffield City Council. Sheffield Corporation bought the land in 1890 from the Hillsborough Hall estate and the park officially opened in 1892, going on to host the Great Yorkshire Show five times. For families, the park has a children's playground with some unusual sculptures designed to be climbed and played on, plus picnic tables nearby. The wider park offers a fishing lake, a bowling green with pavilion, floodlit tennis courts with netball markings, a nine-hole miniature golf course and two covered padel courts. A pump track was installed in 2022 and there is a bike park too. The park is also home to the historic walled garden, which dates back to about 1779 and was originally used to grow soft fruit for Hillsborough Hall — today it is a colourful, well-kept garden next to Middlewood Road. An activity hub with the Courtside café was completed in 2025. Free to enter and well served by tram, Hillsborough Park is one of the city's best-loved green spaces.
