About Springhead Park

Springhead Park is a 22-hectare (54-acre) public park in Rothwell, operated by Leeds City Council. Originally called Rothwell Park, it was created between 1935 and 1937, with the eastern section funded by the Yorkshire Miners Union and opened in 1937. Today the park offers plenty for families: there are two children's playgrounds — an enclosed area for little ones and an open area for older children — with equipment including swings, a toddler castle and slide, a multi-unit tower with slide and wobble bridge, and an inclusive roundabout. Beyond the play areas, the park has a skatepark that opened in 2016, tennis courts, crown green bowling and an aviary. A dementia-friendly garden, one of the UK's first, opened in 2017 built around the aviary. There is also a café and plenty of walking paths and picnic spots across the grounds, plus a weekly parkrun. With open grassland, ornamental gardens and mature trees, Springhead Park remains a well-loved community green space on the south-east edge of Leeds.
