About Dartmouth Park
Dartmouth Park is a well-loved community park in the centre of Morley, on the south-west side of Leeds. The land was presented to the town by the Earl of Dartmouth and the park was formally opened on 24 May 1890, making it one of the oldest public parks in the Morley area. Managed by Leeds City Council, it underwent a major refurbishment, with around 250,000 pounds spent on new footpaths, games areas and children's play facilities. For families, the main attraction is the children's playground, which includes ziplines, see-saws and slides. The wider park offers four free public tennis hard courts, an adult grass football pitch, an outdoor basketball and five-a-side court, and marked one-mile jogging routes for those who want to keep active. There are picnic benches dotted around and plenty of open green space, making it a popular spot for dog walkers, who will find waste bins and room to let dogs off the lead. There are no toilets or a cafe on site, but the shops and eateries of Morley town centre are only a short walk away, so a trip to the park can easily be combined with lunch.
