About Pearson Park
Pearson Park is Hull's oldest public park, given to the town in the 1860s by former mayor Zachariah Pearson and now managed by Hull City Council. It sits just off Beverley Road in the city's leafy Avenues area and has been the subject of a major heritage restoration in recent years. For families the park has a dedicated children's play area set close to the park's other facilities, with its own toilet block containing disabled and children's toilets that are open daily. Refreshments are available from Penna's Cafe, which has a second toilet block alongside it with male, female and disabled toilets. The wider park keeps much of its Victorian character, built around an ornamental lake crossed by a bridge and overlooked by a bandstand, with mature trees and open lawns. Other features include an outdoor gym, a bowling green and pavilion available for hire, a community garden at East Lodge, a restored conservatory used as a venue, an outdoor chess table near the cafe and a solar-powered contactless duck feeder. Only assistance dogs are permitted within the play area, though the rest of the park is a popular spot for a stroll.
