About Oak Road Playing Fields
Oak Road Playing Fields is a large, 75-acre free open space in north Hull, running alongside the western bank of the River Hull and managed by Hull City Council. It is reached from Oak Road or Beresford Avenue and is one of the biggest recreational sites in this part of the city. For families the main attraction is a large play area with a wide variety of equipment for children and young people, backed up in summer by a seasonal water play area and paddling pool. The riverside setting gives plenty of room to roam, with numerous paths and walkways, a jogging route and a trim trail for older children and adults, plus a skate park for wheels. There is also a fishing lake on site for those with the relevant permit. The scale of the place means it rarely feels crowded, and the mix of play area, open grass, water play and river paths makes it a good spot for a longer family visit. Only assistance dogs are welcome in the play areas, while the wider site is popular with walkers and runners. Seasonally marked sports pitches are available to book through the council.
