About Haggerston Park Playground
Haggerston Park sits in the south-west corner of the London Borough of Hackney, entered from Yorkton Street off Hackney Road. The 6-hectare (15-acre) park was created in the 1950s and extended in the 1980s on land formerly occupied by derelict housing and the Shoreditch gasworks, and it now holds a Green Flag award. Managed by Hackney Council, it combines formal gardens, a wisteria-clad arcade walk and a conservation area with a pond that is designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. For families, the children's play area has been upgraded with new equipment and landscaping to suit children of all ages. The park is also a draw for young cyclists thanks to its free BMX cycle track, where Hackney BMX Club runs Sunday coaching sessions. Other facilities include an all-weather 3G football pitch, a multi-use games area for tennis, football, basketball and netball, a seasonal athletics track, a community orchard, a food-growing area and a trim trail. Accessible toilets are available via a door code, and the Haggerston Kiosk serves coffee, cakes and ice cream daily. Hackney City Farm adjoins the park. Dogs are not allowed in the play area, sports facilities or BMX track.
