About Victoria Park

Victoria Park is a 20-hectare park in Glasgow's west, created in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's jubilee and formally opened by the Provost of Partick on 2 July that year. It sits between Scotstoun, Whiteinch, Jordanhill and Broomhill. The unemployed local men who built the park made its most famous discovery, the Fossil Grove, where the fossilised stumps and roots of 330-million-year-old trees are preserved in a dedicated building. For families there is a children's play area with climbing frames and swings, allocated funding under Glasgow City Council's Play Area Renewal Programme. Around the play area the park offers a model yachting pond, bowling greens, tennis courts, a basketball court, a putting course, an orienteering course and several themed gardens, with a landmark four-dial clock dating to 1888. The park is operated by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and open at all times, with individual facilities subject to their own opening times.
