About Tollcross Children's Farm
Tollcross Children's Farm is a free city farm in the historic 19th-century courtyard of the former Tollcross estate in Glasgow's east end, run by the council through Glasgow Life. It cares for a varied collection of animals, from farmyard favourites such as sheep, pigs and chickens to more unusual residents including Shetland ponies, Shire horses, Highland cattle, alpacas and colourful lovebirds in the aviary, plus rabbits and other small animals. Alongside the animals there is a Visitor and Environment Centre, designed to teach children about nature and the cycle of life, making it a popular educational day out for families and school groups. Entry is free, with donations gratefully accepted to help care for the animals, and the farm sits within Tollcross Park, which has its own play areas, gardens and attractions nearby. The farm is open from 10am, Saturday to Thursday until 3.30pm and Fridays until 3pm. Its compact, low-cost and relaxed setting makes it especially good for toddlers and younger children who want to see and get close to animals without the scale or cost of a large farm park.
