About Belmont Park
Belmont Park lies in the Newtown area just to the east of Exeter city centre, off Belmont Road. Owned and managed by Exeter City Council, it is free to use and acts as a busy community hub for its densely populated surrounding neighbourhood. The park offers a good mix of facilities for families and residents, centred on a children's play area and complemented by an outdoor gym and a basketball half-court for older children and adults. It is also home to Belmont Bowling Club and to the Newton Community Hut, which supports local events and activities. One of the park's most distinctive features is its award-winning sensory garden, designed and maintained by the council and opened in spring 2007. The garden won a Planting Places award from Sustainability South West and is planted with herbs, ferns and flowers chosen to provide year-round sights, smells and textures for all visitors, with four hand-painted family-friendly benches to sit and enjoy it. With play, fitness, sport and a tranquil garden all in one compact green space, Belmont Park is a valued free amenity close to the heart of the city.
