About Figgate Park

Figgate Park is a recreational park lying between the seaside suburb of Portobello and Duddingston in east Edinburgh, managed by the City of Edinburgh Council. Its centrepiece is Figgate Pond, ringed by a boardwalk and rich in wildlife - ducks, swans, kingfishers, foxes, bats and otters have all been recorded here - with the Figgate Burn running through the park beneath three foot-bridges. For families there is a refurbished children's play area, reopened in 2022 after an investment of around 190,000 pounds that brought in new climbing and multi-play equipment, together with a separate teenage area. Around the play areas the park has a wildflower meadow, picnic tables and seating, and a network of paths that make it a good spot for walking, jogging or cycling as well as spotting wildlife. The combination of a modern playground and an easy pondside circuit makes it a popular outing for local families, and it has held a Green Flag Award since 2010 in recognition of its quality as a greenspace. Just a short walk from Portobello beach, Figgate Park is a free, nature-filled green space on Edinburgh's east side.
