About Sandall Park
Sandall Park is one of Doncaster's largest and most popular recreational spaces, covering around 69 acres in the Wheatley area about four miles from the town centre on Thorne Road. The land was once used for brick-making, and the park's lake began life as a clay pit before the site was officially opened as a park in 1940. Today it has two lakes, three football pitches and plenty of open grass, so there is room for ball games and lakeside walks. For families the draw is the places to play, which include separate toddler and junior play areas with a zip-wire and climbing frame, a woodland adventure play area and a children's train that nods to the park's history, added when the playground was expanded in 2010. There is also outdoor gym equipment, a basketball post and fitness trails for older visitors, plus picnic areas and the Sandall Park Cafe. The park is managed by City of Doncaster Council and supported by the Friends of Sandall Park, a registered charity set up in 2003 that received the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2011. Entry is free.
