About Pontcanna Fields

Pontcanna Fields is a large area of open parkland beside the River Taff, owned and managed by Cardiff Council and forming part of the green corridor that links with Llandaff Fields, Sophia Gardens and Bute Park. Its wide, flat playing fields make it one of the city's most popular spots for informal games, picnics, walking and cycling, with surfaced pedestrian and cycle paths that follow the river along the Taff Trail. Families with young children head for the children's play area, which has an entrance near Fairleigh Road and includes swings suitable for toddlers alongside plenty of open ground to run around. At the northern end of the fields, near the cycle hire, there are public toilets and a cafe, making it easy to spend a few hours here. A path crosses the fields towards the Blackweir footbridge, giving a direct traffic-free route into Bute Park and the city centre. Parking is available in the pay-and-display Pontcanna Fields car park, which has blue badge bays and electric vehicle charging points. The fields are open at all times with no charge for admission.
