About Grangemoor Park
Grangemoor Park is a distinctive green space in Grangetown, in the south of Cardiff, created on a former household-waste landfill site that closed in 1994 and was restored and opened as parkland in 2000 following a local naming competition. Managed by Cardiff Council, the park rises around 20 metres above the River Ely and surrounding area, giving panoramic views over the south of the city and Cardiff Bay. It is largely a nature-led park of extensive natural grasslands with a pond and wildlife habitat, and it became well known for a wildlife rescue in 2006 when hundreds of slow worms were relocated here from nearby Ferry Road. For families there is a children's play area with fixed play equipment, along with sports pitches and a picnic area, making it a good place to combine play with open-air walks. The park also features public artwork, including the Silent Links steel chain sculpture and an International Language Monument. It sits on the Ely Trail walking and cycling route and is reached from Dunleavy Drive near the Cardiff Bay Retail Park. The park is open at all times with no charge for admission.
