About Coram's Fields Playground
Coram's Fields is a much-loved seven-acre park and playground in Bloomsbury, laid out in 1936 on the former site of the Foundling Hospital. It is owned and run by an independent registered charity, Coram's Fields and the Harmsworth Memorial Playground, and is free to enter. A distinctive rule protects its child-centred atmosphere: adults may only enter if accompanied by a child under 16. Families find a generous range of things to do, including an adventure play area, sand pits, a summer paddling pool and a pets corner with sheep, goats and other animals. Older children and teenagers can use the football pitches, basketball court and tennis courts, while a cafe provides refreshments. The site also hosts nursery, early years, after-school, holiday and youth programmes for the local community. Opening times vary by season, typically 9am to dusk in winter and until 8pm in summer, and the park is open every day except 25 and 26 December.
