About Bold Venture Park
Bold Venture Park sits on the south-west side of Darwen, occupying around 8 hectares in the valley of the Bold Venture Brook, which runs up from the Belgrave area towards the moors on the edge of town. The park is listed by Historic England as a registered park and garden and retains much of its Victorian character, with formal gardens and riverside walks. A levelled area in the north-west corner, formerly the site of the Rutherford Bandstand erected in 1896, is used as the children's playground. This play area has benefited from significant council investment, including a £100,000 upgrade and a wider £200,000 Darwen playgrounds programme in 2024 that added a rope bridge, a new climbing frame and a toddler-friendly area. Beyond the playground, the park's paths are commonly used as a route onto Darwen Moor and towards Darwen Tower, making it a gateway for walkers as well as families. Managed by Blackburn with Darwen Council, Bold Venture Park is free to enter and combines heritage landscaping, water features and modern play facilities in one accessible town-edge green space serving the Darwen community.
