About Swanshurst Park

Swanshurst Park is a public park between Moseley and Billesley, managed by Birmingham City Council. At its heart is Moseley New Pool, established more than 250 years ago when Henry Giles built an earth dam across the valley of a tiny brook to create a fish pond; it is still used by anglers today and is home to many wild birds. Much of the surrounding park is natural heathland, giving it value as a nature conservation habitat for the city. For families there is a children's playground, and a basketball hoop provides extra active play. The park has accessible paths around the pool, along with nature trails, formal walking routes and cycling paths, plus a large variety of trees, grassland, marshes and bird-watching opportunities among the waterfowl. There are no toilets on site, and the park is supported by an active Friends of Swanshurst Park group. With its historic pool, wildlife-rich heathland and dedicated play area, Swanshurst Park offers both a playground visit and a genuine nature walk in south Birmingham.
