About Ashton Park

Ashton Park on Westbourne Road is a local community park in West Kirby, managed by Wirral Council with a very active Friends of Ashton Park group. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and free to enter. The children's playground is the park's most popular attraction: it was reconstructed in 1996, upgraded to the latest standards in 2009 and given an extra activity unit for very young children in 2010. The play area is fenced and signed as dog-free, and it is inspected weekly by trained playground maintenance operatives. The centrepiece of the wider park is a lake with a fountain and wildfowl, set among formal and informal gardens and a rose garden. There is plenty for all ages, including a multi-use games area, grass and hard-surface tennis courts, two bowling greens and pavilions and a grass junior football pitch, plus footpath links to the Wirral Way, a 12-mile walking and cycling route. A teashop within the park provides refreshments and toilets, and parking is on-street in surrounding streets. With its lake, gardens and well-kept playground, Ashton Park is a lovely family visit in West Kirby.
