About Horsforth Hall Park
Horsforth Hall Park is a community park in Horsforth, about six miles from Leeds city centre, covering roughly 3.38 hectares (8.4 acres) and managed by Leeds City Council. The park was created on the grounds of Horsforth Hall, a house built in 1699 and given to the council by William Mathieson in 1930; the park opened in 1932, and while the hall was demolished in 1953, the Grade II listed former stables still stand. For families it offers a particularly good range of play: an adventure playground, a toddler-friendly sandpit, a skate park for older children and a specially designed under-eights playground created with the charity Mencap so that disabled and able-bodied children can play together. Wheelchair-accessible entrances and paths run through the grounds. Beyond play, there is open parkland, a cricket pitch home to Horsforth Hall Park Cricket Club, a bowling green, a bandstand and a Japanese Garden added in 1987. It is a varied, inclusive and genuinely free local park. (Note: Leeds City Council has proposed upgrading the playground, with works planned to improve the sandpit and toddler area.)
