About Meanwood Park

Meanwood Park is a free, council-managed green space on the edge of the Meanwood Valley, north of Leeds city centre, run by the Leeds City Council Parks and Countryside Service. Covering around 29 hectares (72 acres), it has large open areas, mature trees and woodland, making it a popular spot for picnics, walks and runs, and it forms part of the Meanwood Valley Trail. The children's playground, at the southern end of the park, saw a complete transformation in 2023 after a local campaign, with new equipment that includes an accessible roundabout, a trampoline, a junior multi-play unit, a WeHopper see-saw and cradle swings; biodiversity features such as planting and bug hotels were built into the design. Beside the play area there are picnic benches, a cafe and two tennis courts that are free to use. With its refurbished, inclusive playground set against woodland and valley scenery, Meanwood Park is a well-rounded and genuinely free family day out.
