About Almond Valley Heritage Centre

Almond Valley Heritage Centre in Livingston is one of the biggest family days out within easy reach of Edinburgh, combining a working rare-breed farm with an extensive adventure play centre. The farm side is home to ponies, donkeys, goats (including Bagot and pygmy breeds), alpacas, Clydesdale horses, Highland cattle, rare-breed sheep and a selection of smaller animals such as guinea pigs and newly hatched chicks, with a dedicated petting area where children can get close. Beyond the animals there is a large indoor soft-play barn plus outdoor jumping pillows, trampolines, zip lines, a sand pit, go-karts and a forest play park, along with a narrow-gauge train ride and tractor ride that circle the site. Run by a registered charity, the centre also tells the story of Scotland's shale-oil industry through its museum. There's a family-friendly cafe, a Shepherd's Hut for grab-and-go food, picnic areas and a large free car park right by the entrance. It's open every day of the year apart from the main winter holidays, with online booking required to visit.
