About Springfield Hall Park

Springfield Hall Park is a much-treasured public open space in the residential Springfield area north of Chelmsford city centre, run free of charge by Chelmsford City Council and holding a Green Flag Award. The River Chelmer runs along its western side, giving good walking and cycling links directly to the city centre and onward through the Chelmer Valley Nature Reserve. The park's best-known feature for families is its children's play area, known locally as 'Rocket Park', which has been rebuilt and improved to be more inclusive and accessible for children of different abilities. It is divided into an infant area suitable for children aged 2 to 6, where younger children can gain confidence, and a junior area for ages 7 to 12 with more challenging equipment. Beyond the play area there is a kickabout zone and football pitches that are home to Springfield Football Club, along with allotment access on site. The park is dog-walking friendly and well used by local residents. A car park with 97 standard spaces and 5 disabled spaces serves visitors, with a two-hour maximum stay and weekday restrictions. With its modern inclusive play area and riverside setting, Springfield Hall Park is a dependable free day out in the north of the city.
