About King George V Playing Field

King George V Playing Field is one of Exeter City Council's largest and most prestigious outdoor sports sites, lying towards the south of the city between Wonford and Countess Wear, with access off Bridge Road. It is free to use and owned by the council. While best known as a hub for football and rugby, with up to six full-sized football pitches, eight mini-soccer pitches, a youth pitch and changing rooms, the site is also an excellent destination for families. It has two children's play areas: one just off Chestnut Avenue and a second, known as Wonford Wild, set within the playing fields further south towards Topsham Road. Wonford Wild is a new, natural-themed play facility, while the main play park is renowned for its accessibility, having once been voted the sixth most accessible and inclusive playground in the world. Around the pitches and play areas there is a fun bike trail, a cycle path running the length of the site, a basketball half-court, two tennis courts next to Bridge Road, public toilets and a collection of veteran oak trees. This mix of top-class sport, inclusive play and open space makes King George V a standout free family park in Exeter.
