About Ludwell Valley Park
Ludwell Valley Park is one of Exeter's six valley parks, a stretch of countryside running through the south-east of the city near Wonford. It comprises some splendid rural valleys and ridge-lines that offer excellent views across Exeter, with access along footpaths, bridleways and lanes. The park is owned by Exeter City Council, and since May 2019 its day-to-day care and maintenance have been managed by Devon Wildlife Trust under a long-term lease covering the city's valley parks. Unlike the wilder stretches of the valley network, Ludwell has a children's play area, giving families a reason to combine a walk in the open countryside with some time in the playground. The wider park is valued for its meadows, grassland and wildlife, and for the sense of escape it offers so close to the built-up city. It is free to visit and open as public open space. Because this is a countryside park rather than a formal urban park, facilities beyond the play area are limited and visitors should come prepared for walking on natural surfaces. Ludwell forms part of the Exeter Green Circle network of walks that links the city's green spaces.
