About Crow Nest Park
Crow Nest Park is one of Kirklees' destination parks, set on a hillside in the Dewsbury Moor area of Dewsbury. It opened to the public in 1893 on the grounds of a country house estate whose origins reach back to the 16th century, and was created to bring some rural character to what was then a heavily industrial district. The park holds a Green Flag award and is managed by Kirklees Council. For families the main draw is a multi-age play area with traditional play equipment, backed by a multi-use games area and outdoor gym equipment dotted throughout the grounds; an adventure playground was added in 2011. Kirklees secured funding through its Playable Spaces project, together with the FCC Communities Foundation, for a major upgrade to the play area that adds new accessible and sensory equipment, accessible safety surfacing and seating. Beyond the play facilities, the park offers an ornamental lake, formal lawns, a walled wildflower garden, a greenhouse and a cafe, plus wider sports provision. The hillside setting gives views over the surrounding towns and countryside, making it a spacious spot for a family visit.
