About Beaumont Park
Beaumont Park is a Victorian public park on the south-western edge of Huddersfield, between Netherton, Crosland Moor and Lockwood. Officially opened on 13 October 1883, it was the town's first municipal park and is maintained today by Kirklees Council with help from the volunteer group Friends of Beaumont Park. The children's play area was rebuilt through the council's Playable Spaces programme alongside more than 74,000 pounds raised by the Friends, including over 24,000 pounds from West Riding Masonic Charities towards equipment for children with disabilities. The design mixes traditional equipment with natural play, using boulders, rope pull-ups and a range of swings, slides and roundabouts. Beyond the playground, the park offers a visitor centre, a bandstand reinstated by volunteers, water cascades, formal planting and the wooded slopes of Dungeon Wood. Access is step-free at the main entrance, with ramps or gentle slopes throughout the park, making much of it reachable for wheelchair and buggy users. The park has held a Green Flag Award every year since 2011. Free to enter and open to the public, Beaumont Park is one of the most attractive free family destinations in the Huddersfield area.
