About Sewell Park

Sewell Park is a triangular public park between Constitution Hill and St Clement's Hill in the New Catton area of Norwich, run by Norwich City Council and free to enter. It was given to the city as an open space by members of the Sewell family and former mayor Edward Gurney Buxton in 1908, and was formally opened in 1909. At the entrance stands a commemorative horse trough honouring Anna Sewell, the Norwich-born author of Black Beauty, and other members of the Sewell family, giving the park a distinctive local heritage. For families, Sewell Park has an enclosed children's play area with equipment suitable for toddlers and junior children, set within a large grassy open space that is good for picnics and games. The council notes that there is no parking and no toilets at the park, so it is best suited to a short local visit. With its safe, fenced play area, generous lawns and literary connection, Sewell Park is a pleasant and free neighbourhood green space in the north of Norwich.
