About Runfold Avenue Play Area
Runfold Avenue is a small neighbourhood play area in the Runfold suburb of north Luton, run by Luton Borough Council. Runfold sits around Birdsfoot Lane and is bounded to the south by the River Lea, and this playground occupies a little riverside field close to the water, serving the surrounding streets. It is one of the roughly 60 council-managed playgrounds being upgraded through Luton's play area refurbishment programme. The equipment is largely timber built, giving the site a natural look that suits its riverside setting. Children can use baby swings and standard swings, two wooden climbing frames fitted with scramble nets and slides, a spinner bowl, a Kompan supernova spinner and a see-saw, giving a decent mix of play for both younger and older visitors. The adjacent riverside walk links the play area into the wider green corridor along the River Lea, making it an easy spot to combine play with a short walk. As a neighbourhood play area it does not have its own toilets or cafe, but it is free to use and open to all. The site is close to local shops and schools in the Runfold and Icknield area.
