About Victoria Park
Victoria Park is a small ornamental park in the Rosemount area of Aberdeen, created in 1871 as the city's first public park and managed by Aberdeen City Council. Covering around 5 hectares, it was laid out when the Council transformed grazing land into a public green space named after Queen Victoria. For families it offers a children's play area and outdoor fitness equipment within a compact, well-contained setting that many parents find convenient for younger children. The park's best-known feature is its central ornamental fountain, gifted by the city's Granite Polishers and made from fourteen different types of granite - a showcase of the stone that gave Aberdeen its 'Granite City' name. Around it are landscaped gardens, mature planting, a sundial and walking paths, with open grass for games and picnics. Sitting directly opposite the larger Westburn Park, Victoria Park is easy to combine with a longer outing. Free to enter, it is a pleasant and manageable neighbourhood park for a short family visit in the west end of the city.
