About Seaton Park

Seaton Park is a large public park in Old Aberdeen, set on the banks of the River Don beside the historic St Machar's Cathedral and managed by Aberdeen City Council. Covering around 27 hectares, it opened in 1947 and blends formal horticulture with open riverside space. Its children's playpark is a local landmark thanks to Mr Therm, a preserved 1947 locomotive that once hauled coal from Aberdeen harbour; it has formed part of the playpark since 1974 and was refurbished and repainted in 2017. Around the play area the park offers well-maintained formal flower beds, a secluded walled garden, football pitches and long paths along the River Don. A wetland area created in 2016 helps manage flooding while providing habitat for wildlife, and the grounds take in views of St Machar's Cathedral and the nearby 17th-century Wallace Tower. The combination of a distinctive playpark, river walks and historic surroundings makes Seaton a characterful spot for a family visit. Free to enter, it is one of the green highlights of Old Aberdeen.
