About Mount Wise Park

Mount Wise Park sits on high ground in Devonport with spectacular views over the Royal William Yard, Plymouth Sound and across the Hamoaze towards Mount Edgcumbe. It is best known for its three open-air sea-water pools - a main swimming pool and two fun pools with fountains, stepping stones, a whirlpool and a shallow paddling area for younger children - which are free to use in season. Alongside the pools the park has a children's playground, a coffee shop, outdoor gym equipment and ping pong tables, and its large flat areas make it a popular place for children learning to ride bikes or scooters. The clifftop setting also takes in a memorial to Scott of the Antarctic and the historic Mount Wise Redoubt, giving the park plenty of heritage interest. It is a popular spot for families, dog walkers and anglers alike. The park is owned by Plymouth City Council and is free to enter, with the pools managed on the council's behalf; opening arrangements for the pools are seasonal, so it is worth checking current times before a summer visit.
