About Penllergare Valley Woods
Penllergare Valley Woods is a restored historic landscape on the northern fringe of Swansea, just off Junction 47 of the M4 on the A48. Cared for by the Penllergare Trust, it is a magical place of woodland, lakes and a waterfall reached by an easy stroll from the visitor centre. For families there is a children's play area and plenty of scope for woodland exploration, with sessions such as outdoor mud-kitchen play and Welsh story time aimed at younger children. Well-maintained gravel and stone paths make parts of the site suitable for strollers, though the wider woodland terrain is naturally uneven in places. Entry to the woods is free, with donations welcomed, and there is a community-run coffee shop and toilets with baby-changing facilities at the visitor centre. The car park is pay-and-display, so while access to the woods themselves costs nothing, visitors arriving by car should budget for parking. The mix of nature, heritage, a waterfall and family play makes it one of the most distinctive green days out in the Swansea area. The woods are dog friendly.
