About Brynmill Park
Brynmill Park is a well-preserved Victorian urban park dating from 1872, with the distinction of being Swansea's first park. Managed by Swansea Council and separated from neighbouring Singleton Park by Brynmill Lane, it is dominated by an attractive tree-fringed lake that was originally built as a reservoir and now teems with wildlife, including mute swans and other waterfowl. The park was the subject of a 1.3 million pound restoration scheme led by Swansea Council and part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, supported by the Friends of Brynmill Park, which added floating nesting islands, aquatic planting and a Discovery Centre. The children's play area offers swings and slides, and the lakeside Discovery Centre is a unique outdoor classroom where families can watch birds and wildlife and join arts, crafts and interactive activities. There is also a bowling green, a refreshment kiosk, toilets and picnic areas, and the council describes the park as accessible to all. Entry is free. There is no large dedicated car park, so most visitors use on-street parking in the surrounding Brynmill streets.
