About Hickman Park
Hickman Park is an Edwardian memorial park in Bilston, half a mile from the town centre, opened in 1911 in memory of Sir Alfred Hickman, a local industrialist and former Member of Parliament. Managed by City of Wolverhampton Council, it has been restored through a Heritage Lottery-funded project that returned the park to its original splendour while adding modern facilities. Families will find a children's play area with play facilities for all ages, alongside a seated amphitheatre, two ball courts, outdoor fitness equipment and open playing fields. For older children there is a BMX track that winds through the park's woodland, and wildflower meadow areas have been created to support local wildlife. A new building houses the park rangers and provides a meeting room, toilet and baby changing facilities, with a car park serving visitors. The park also hosts free sports activities for young people aged 8 to 18 through the Wolves Foundation's Kicks in the Park programme. With its restored heritage layout, network of paths and varied facilities, Hickman Park is a welcoming green space for Bilston families.
