About East Park

East Park is a historic Victorian park laid out off Hickman Avenue near Monmore Green, opened on 21 September 1896 on land donated by the Duke of Sutherland, Alfred Hickman and Arthur Sparrow and designed by Thomas Mawson. Managed by City of Wolverhampton Council, it underwent a major 630,000-pound transformation completed in 2023 that gave it one of the city's most impressive play areas, shaped with help from local residents. The playground is split into zones: a toddler area with cradle swings and a trampoline, a junior zone with climbing walls and a multi-play unit, and a teenage area with a pendulum swing and giant slides. Children will also find roundabouts, see-saws, a firefighter's pole, rockers, springers, bucket and rope swings, wetpour tunnels and themed treetop towers complete with friendly shark and octopus features. The design is deliberately inclusive, with ramped access for wheelchair users, hand grips and tactile play panels so children of all abilities can play together. A seasonal splash park reopens each year from the late May bank holiday and runs through the summer, making East Park a firm family favourite on warm days.
