About Victoria Park

Victoria Park is a nearly 20-acre municipal park at the western end of Canton, created by Cardiff around 1897-98 to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and now listed Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register. Managed by Cardiff Council, it is one of the few UK parks where a keeper still lives in an on-site lodge. The park is best known to families for its children's playpark and, next to it, a splashpad that replaced the old paddling pool and offers 33 water features including sprays, jets, a tipping bucket and a tunnel spread across toddler, junior and family zones. Close by is the much-loved sculpture of Billy the Seal, who lived in the park's pool from 1912 until 1939. Other facilities include a multi-use games area, basketball and tennis courts, and a bowling green and pavilion. Public toilets with baby-change are located near the playground, and a refreshment kiosk, cafe and coffee outlets operate on site. The park is free to enter and open from 7:30am until 30 minutes before sunset all year round. There is no dedicated car park, so visitors use on-street parking in the surrounding streets. It is both child and dog friendly.
