About Dalmeny Street Park
Dalmeny Street Park is a free, public park in Leith, north Edinburgh, on Dalmeny Street, managed by the City of Edinburgh Council. Although compact, it is one of the better-equipped neighbourhood play parks in the area and was designed to provide play for all ages. The current play space was built in 2010 and won a Nancy Ovens Play Award that year for best community involvement, reflecting the way local people shaped the design. Its equipment includes swings for all, a cableway or zip ride, a dolphin springer, a net roundabout and a large multiplay high tower with a slide, plus a multiplay ball court and a separate basketball court with teenage seating, so it genuinely caters for toddlers through to teenagers. There is wheelchair access and seating around the park. The site has a long history as public recreation space: formerly known as Iona Street, it was first laid out as a recreation area in 1902 and was maintained by the governors of Trinity Hospital before being passed into the city's care in 1922. Centrally placed in Leith, it is a well-used and lively community park.
