About Bolehill Recreation Ground
Bolehill Recreation Ground, known locally as The Bole Hills, is a public open space in the suburb of Crookes, administered by Sheffield City Council's Parks and Countryside Service and classified as one of the city's district parks. Covering around 12 hectares (30 acres) at an elevated position of roughly 200 metres, it is a mixture of heathland, scrub and woodland and is designated as a Local Wildlife Site. For families, there is a children's playground with climbing rocks and picnic benches around the edge, plus tree tunnels that are good for exploring, all set against wide views over the city. The site is well known for its BMX track, which was first built in 1983, resurfaced in 2015 and given a major redesign in 2022 to 2023. Alongside the play area and BMX track there are a football pitch, tennis courts and bowling greens, as well as 15 allotment plots and the four-hectare Bole Hill Wood of mixed deciduous trees. Surfaced walking paths run across the site. The recreation ground is free to enter and is a popular spot for play, ball games and taking in the Sheffield skyline.
