About Pound's Park

Pound's Park is an award-winning public green space in the heart of Sheffield city centre, at the junction of Wellington Street and Rockingham Street. Created by Sheffield City Council as part of the wider Heart of the City regeneration, it opened in 2023 and is named after John Charles Pound, Sheffield's first Chief Fire Officer. The park is best known for its outstanding children's playground, which features two large pyramid climbing towers — the tallest around 11 metres — along with slides, climbing structures, playhouses, a seesaw and a sandpit. A three-by-eight-metre climbing boulder echoes a Peak District rockface, and a water play zone runs through the park with pumps, sprays, water wheels and dams for warmer days. A musical chime floor adds to the fun. The playground was designed to be fully inclusive, with wheelchair-accessible equipment. The park is free, open from 8am to 5pm and not gated, with public toilets on site. It won Best Public Place at The Pineapple Awards 2024 and is easily reached on foot from West Street tram stop, making it a popular family stop in the city centre.
