About Markeaton Park
Markeaton Park is Derby's largest and most visited park, covering around 207 acres on the north-west edge of the city and managed by Derby City Council. Free to enter, it draws about a million visitors a year and is a Green Flag Award park. For families the big draw is the play provision near the Mundy Play Centre, including children's playgrounds and a seasonal paddling pool, with a newer play area added during the 2012-2015 restoration project. Alongside the free play areas there are paid attractions such as Skyline High Ropes, crazy golf, pitch and putt, rowing boats, donkey rides and a seasonal light railway. The Grade II listed Orangery Cafe and Craft Village sit at the heart of the park, with toilets open daily (weather permitting). Level paths run around much of the park, and there is disabled access to the play areas, cafe and Craft Village. Two pay-and-display car parks serve the park (the main one off the A38 at Markeaton Island, with a 2m height limit, and a second off Markeaton Lane), with free parking for Blue Badge holders. A weekly parkrun also uses the park.
