About Allestree Park
Allestree Park is a free, public park off Duffield Road in Allestree, north Derby, managed by Derby City Council. At around 130 hectares (320 acres) it is the largest public open space in the city, centred on a lake with mature woodlands, grasslands and wildflower meadows, and the site is part of an ongoing rewilding and conservation project. Families will find a children's play area along with huge amounts of open space for walks and informal play, and there are two self-guided nature trails to follow. Other facilities include tennis courts and provision for cricket and bowls. The park is well known for its scenery and wildlife, and in winter visitors may see Highland cattle grazing the meadows as part of the rewilding scheme. Toilets are open daily from 9am to 3pm. There are two free rough-stone car parks, the main car park and one off Woodlands Road, both no charge. As a large natural park, provision is more rustic than at the formal city parks, so it suits families who enjoy combining a play visit with a longer nature walk.
