About Rushey Fields Recreation Ground

Rushey Fields Recreation Ground is a roughly 3-hectare council-run open space on Harrison Road in the Rushey Mead area of north Leicester. Managed by Leicester City Council, it is a popular local spot for picnics, dog walking and sport, with a children's play area, a basketball court and grass football pitches used for full-sized, junior and mini-soccer games. The site is laid out as green fields crossed by pedestrian footpaths; some of those paths are unsurfaced and can get muddy in wetter months. There is a small car park off Harrison Road, and the recreation ground can also be reached from the nearby Melton Road, which is well served by buses. Dogs are welcome. The children's play area is among the sites included in Leicester City Council's recent citywide playground refurbishment programme, with improvement work expected to complete by spring 2027. The recreation ground is free to visit with no entry charge and is open to the public throughout the year.
