About Western Park

Western Park is the largest park in Leicester, covering around 178 acres of formal and informal green space about three miles west of the city centre on Hinckley Road. Managed by Leicester City Council and free to enter, it was purchased by the city in 1897 and blends open grassland with mature woodlands and meadows. For families, the park has a large children's play area that includes a sand play area, along with a skate park and a pump track that appeal to older children and teenagers. There is also an outdoor gym, six tennis courts, two bowls greens and other sports courts, plus a sensory garden and picnic areas. Facilities include an on-site cafe, public toilets and a Changing Places facility, with car parking available. Accessibility is good, with mostly level paths and step-free entrances, and surfaced routes connect the key facilities including the cafe, toilets, tennis courts and main play area. The park's size and variety make it one of the best all-round family destinations in the west of the city, with space for sport, play and quiet walks in one place.
