About Kelvingrove Park

Kelvingrove Park is a Victorian public park in Glasgow's West End, laid out on the banks of the River Kelvin. Created from 1852 as West End Park and partly designed by Sir Joseph Paxton, it was one of Britain's first purpose-built public parks, bought by the Town Council to give the growing city green space for recreation. For families it offers three children's play areas, which were among the first in the city to be refurbished under Glasgow City Council's multi-million-pound programme of investment in play parks. The play areas reopened after upgrading and sit within easy reach of the River Kelvin paths. Alongside the play areas, the park has a skate park, a restored bandstand and amphitheatre, bowling greens and riverside walkways, all set beneath mature trees and close to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the University of Glasgow. The park is operated by Glasgow City Council, is free to enter and is open at all times, with individual facilities subject to their own opening times.
