About Walton Hall and Gardens Children's Zoo

The Children's Zoo at Walton Hall and Gardens is a free, council-run animal attraction in Higher Walton, just south of Warrington, set within beautifully landscaped gardens run by Warrington Borough Council. Entry to the zoo is free, making it one of the most accessible family animal days out in the area. Its residents include three alpacas (Jim, Mally and Topaz), two rescue donkeys (Lenny and Charlie), rabbits, potbellied pigs, Herdwick sheep, African pygmy goats, guinea pigs, red squirrels and a flock of famously noisy peacocks and other birds. The zoo is open year-round in all weathers, so there is always something to see. The wider Walton Hall and Gardens estate adds a children's playground, the Heritage Cafe for refreshments, toilets and plenty of space to roam, along with seasonal family events, animal adoption schemes and alpaca walks (some of which may carry a charge). Dogs are not permitted in the children's zoo, so it is best to leave pets at home for this part of the visit. With free entry, gentle animals and a playground close by, it is an easy, low-cost outing for families with young children near Warrington.
