About Queens Gardens

Queens Gardens is a Victorian landscaped square on Palmyra Square, at the heart of Warrington's Cultural Quarter, managed by Warrington Borough Council. Originally private residential gardens, the land was purchased by the council in 1897 and opened to the public in 1898, the same year its ornamental fountain was erected to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. Today it combines a children's play area with a handsome greenspace of lawns, benches and historic features, including the town's Boer War memorial and a statue of Colonel O'Leary. The gardens are open 24 hours a day and have car parking available, making them an easy stop for families visiting the town centre, theatre or nearby food and drink. Because it sits within the Cultural Quarter, a visit to Queens Gardens can be combined with Warrington's leisure and cultural attractions. Free to enter and centrally located, it offers a compact, attractive spot for a short play and a rest among Victorian landscaping, rather than a large destination playground.
