About Hartshill Park
Hartshill Park stretches along the western edge of Stoke-on-Trent at Hartshill and is managed by Stoke-on-Trent City Council as a public park and local nature reserve. Reclaimed from former industrial land, the valley-side park is now a patchwork of woodland, grassland and ponds, with a network of elevated paths running along the Etruria valley side that give walkers and runners a surprisingly rural escape close to the city. It is a popular spot for nature watching, with wildlife and seasonal interest through the year. For families the park offers a children's play area, and there are tennis courts for casual games, part of the city's network of park tennis facilities. The combination of a nature reserve setting with some active facilities makes it an all-ages space rather than purely a formal park. Entry is free and the grounds are open throughout the day. Dogs are welcome and may be off lead unless a council officer directs otherwise. Because it is a reclaimed valley-side site, paths can be uneven in places, so sturdy footwear is sensible for exploring the wider woodland trails.
