About The Quarry Play Area & Splash Park

The Quarry is Shrewsbury's best-loved park, 29 acres of riverside parkland encircled by a loop of the River Severn and a short walk from the town centre. At its heart sits the Dingle, the sunken floral garden made famous by television gardener Percy Thrower during his years as Parks Superintendent. The play area was transformed in a Town Council scheme costing more than 350,000 pounds, built by Shrewsbury firm Ray Parry Playgrounds around a Darwin's Islands of Adventure theme. It centres on a tree house tower climber with a large curved slide, and includes a dish roundabout, a group swing, flat and cradle swings, a bridge crossing with rubber spheres, a rock spinner and a mission climber, with separate toddler equipment nearby. Beside it the splash park offers water-play features and spray heads that open seasonally in warmer months. Families can picnic on the grass, follow the riverside paths, fish along the banks or watch events on the park's open spaces, with cafe refreshments, toilets and parking close at hand.
